In the heart of the Amazon Rainforest in Tabatinga, Brazil, across the border from Colombia and Peru, numerous families live among food waste, medical waste, animal carcasses, plastics, metals and worse. When the dump gets too full, the trash is simply burned creating a threat to human health and the environment.

Rethink Global: Amazon launches an inaugural effort focused on working with local partners to outline a pathway out of poverty for these families by creating jobs for people who collect materials for recycling. These materials are then processed, cleaned, and sold or reused in other products.

During trips to the Amazon, working with our partners, we also provide educational resources such as pens, pencils, notebooks, backpacks, and books to promote the importance of education and health. We cannot solve every problem at once, thus we focus on impactful investment with the resources available.
